Awesome paved/unpaved road. From Susa half way is paved to the top. After reaching top it the pass road is paved.
an amazing challenge to cycle this col! the gravel part is difficult but doable with a gravel bike, but be aware of the weather since it can be some 20° colder at the col compared to the valley
Came here on August 29th 2021. up Sp172. While the summit by itself might not be the most remarkable in the Alps, tough competition here, it's the roads that takes home the price.
Glad I came, will be back again!
GCN was right - truly epic!!!
That word to wise, gravel section much worse conditions than you’ll see on 2015 and 2018 Giro stages. Tons of deep gravel and large stones. I wouldn’t risk carbon wheels (again!) - leave those home. Maybe we are just too early in the season and it will smooth out later in the season. Still, the difficulty of the gravel only added to the epicness (is that a word?!??)
Fantastic unpaved road.
Must ride undoubtedly
Wonderful cycling experience
Beautiful and legendary col from the Giro d'Italia.
Great place
As a BMW GSA driver you have to be there. Panorama and route unique. I came in from the south side. Then things get really exciting.
